Obituary for Kathryn "Kate" Priest

Kathryn L. "Kate" Priest, age 93, of Wooster, passed away Monday, December 5, 2016 at West View Healthy Living in Wooster following a short period of declining health.

She was born in Rittman on September 7, 1923 to Donald and Leona (Holderbaum) Morr.
She moved to the Wooster area when she was 10 years old and graduated from Wooster High School in 1941. Kate married Kenneth "Ken" Priest who passed away on August 7, 2011.
After graduation, she worked for Fredricksburg Art Pottery and Toy Crafts, worked part-time at the College of Wooster and at the age of 80, retired from the Wooster Community Hospital, where she worked in the Dietary Dept. after 25 years of service.
Kate was a member of Oak Chapel United Methodist Church in Wooster where she also taught Sunday school.
Everyone knew of her love for Oreo's, just as much as a milkshake from Dairy Land. She didn't go a day without one or the other, or even both. She loved NASCAR, attending fairs, ringing Christmas bells for the Salvation Army every year, and roller skating (she was one of the best).
She was a member of the Blachleyville Pomona State and National Grange for over 70 years, a 4 - H advisor for the Jefferson Pioneers for 18 years, belonged to the American Cancer Society for over 50 years, volunteered for the Red Cross, and was a life member of the Wooster Community Hospital Auxiliary.
Kate received the John Wallace Humanitarian Award for volunteering in 1989, was voted into the hall of fame area agency in Canton in 1992, and was the second runner-up for Mother of The Year award in Ohio in 1974.
On her 90th birthday, she was honored by the Wayne County Fair Board for never missing a Wayne County Fair for over 80 years while also working in the Grange Dining Hall. Kate was on the committee to clean the first farm for Wayne County and also helped to clean the fairgrounds after the 4th of July flood.
When the Wayne County Home (Wayne County Care Center) had to cancel their festival due to the construction of the new building, Kate came to the rescue and had it moved to the Grange Hall at the Wayne County Fair Grounds, which was there for a number of years, now called the Home And Garden Show.

She is survived by her granddaughter Crystal (Gino) Scopel of Wooster, and daughter Peggy Hibbs also of Wooster, in addition to numerous friends and family.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her sister, Ardes Stout Leisy, brother, Karl Morr and son-in-law, Sam Hibbs.

Visitation will be today, (Thursday) from 1 - 3 & 5 - 7 p.m. at Custer-Glenn Funeral Home.
It was her wishes there be private services that will take place at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to either: Friends of The Wayne County Fair, P.O. Box 3, Wooster, Oh. 44691or the Wayne County Humane Society, 1161 Mechanicsburg Rd., Wooster, Oh. 44691.
