Obituary for Dale K. Moore

Dale K. Moore, age 84, of Wooster, died Friday, August 12, 2016 at West View Healthy Living in Wooster where he had been cared for since 2012.
Dale was born on May 22, 1932 in Olathe, Kansas, the son of William H. and Laura (Elliot) Moore.

He attended the University of Kansas where he received a Bachelor and Master's degrees in music. His additional studies took place at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria which was made possible by a Fulbright Scholarship that was awarded in 1954.

His long career as a professor of singing, choral conductor and baritone soloist began in 1956 at the College of Wooster when he was hired to replace a professor on sabbatical leave.

Dale returned to the college where he taught from 1964 - 1967 and then again from 1977 - 1985.
Other universities where he was employed included Dennison University, Southern Illinois University, Washington University in St. Louis, Indiana University and the Eastman School of Music. International teaching opportunities included summer programs in Japan, Italy and New Zealand.

He was active in several professional organizations, most notably The American Academy of Teachers of Singing and the National Association of Teachers of Singing. He served the latter group for three years as its president.

He is survived his his wife, Rosanne Greenwood whom he married in 1956; three children, Kimberly Ferguson of Sycamore, Illinois, Steven D. (Denise) Moore of Philadelphia, PA., and Rosemary Mann of Wooster, Ohio; six grandchildren, Andrew M. Ferguson of Geneva, Illinois, Ashley Ferguson McCaleb of Batavia, Illinois, John W. Mann, II of Wooster, Sarah Swartzentruber Munn of Wooster, Dr. Winslow Blankenship of Washington, DC and Army Lt. David K. Moore currently serving at Fort Hood, TX.; eleven great grandchildren.

Dale felt fortunate that he was able to earn his living doing work he truly loved. He will be long be remembered by a host of former students and colleagues with whom he shared his great knowledge and love of music.

It was his wishes there will be no services. A private interment will take place at the convenience of the family.
