Condolences

Condolence From: David Tafone
Condolence: My deepest sympathies and sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Dale Moore. Dr. Moore was my voice teacher at IU Jacob's school of music in 2008 and was a fantastic teacher, mentor and human being. He was always very supportive of my progress and very encouraging towards me and my colleagues. My voice improved a lot under his tutelage and to this day I still vocalize and warm up with quite a bit of his technical exercises and vocalizes. I will be forever grateful for his mentorship, knowledge and impact he has had on my growth as a singer and human being.

Condolence: Mr. Moore was my voice teacher many years ago at Indiana University. He was a masterful technician and great encourager, and was a pivotal part of my growth as a singer and musician. To this day, I still use many of the exercises and techniques I learned from him. I also took a vocal literature class with him, and still use the books from his class in my own teaching. On a personal note, I still have a hand-written letter he sent to me regarding my singing and how to improve as a performer. On the envelope, it is addressed to "The Incomparable Laura White". Though I hardly consider myself "incomparable", Mr. Moore always made me feel that way when I was in my voice lessons. I am truly sorry for your loss. Mr. Moore was a great teacher, and a great man. I pray that your family will be comforted by special memories of him, and by the love and support of family and friends. With deepest sympathy, Laura Eads

Condolence: I am so saddened to hear of Dale's passing. He was my beloved teacher, mentor, and friend during the early year's of my career. So much of what I do now as a voice teacher is rooted in techniques I learned from him. And his sense of humor and booming bass voice. Love and sympathy to Roseanne and all of the family, Sincerely, Rosemarie Cereghino

Condolence: I was a student of Dale Moore from 1967-68 at SIUE. He taught me so much about technique and I was able to perform a graduate recital I could not have sung without his tutelage. Having been a student of Marjorie Lawrence for three years, I always said I learned the drama from her and the proper way to sing it from Mr. Moore. He was a kind and patient man, and I will always cherish having studied with him. Condolences to his family. Karen (Petty) Clayton. MM 1967.

Condolence From: John Gross
Condolence: I will always be grateful to Dale Moore for his influence and help in securing my employment at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. as Staff Accompanist. His influence paved the way for many wonderful musical experiences with him and his students in recital and NATS competitions, also Metropolitan Opera Auditions. He was a positive influence in the lives of all he touched and he created a sad vacuum when he moved from the St Louis area. Dorothy, my wife, and I send our condolences to Roseanne and we are thankful for the many good times we have had together. John Gross, Sunset Hills, Mo.

Condolence: What a wonderful, giant of a man in every way. I studied with him from 1977-1980 My life was blessed by knowing Mr. Moore and his tremendous influence on my singing. We shared much laughter and joy as well as the art of singing. I continue to teach music to children and have for many years. During my last visit to Wooster, a very small group of us went over to see Mr. Moore. It was incredibly special to see his eyes light up and spark a connection over a couple of memories. Thank you for sharing him with so many. I will remember him always. Sending support to your whole family. Susan Bosworth Linney

Condolence: Dear Roseanne and all the family, My deepest sympathy to you in the loss of Dale, whom we all loved. He taught me so much. Singing Susanna under his direction in A Marriage of Figaro was the highlight of my whole college experience. And I will never forget Mr. Moore's larger-than-life personality! One time he told me "Tell them that is something up with which you will not put!" He shared my joy when he sang at my wedding and shared my sorrow when I suffered a vocal injury that cut short my singing career. Roseanne, I will never forget your hospitality the summer I stayed with you for a week when singing with The Ohio Light Opera. (Your cat was not as hospitable--you both went to an out of town wedding, and your cat whom I cared for in your absence was mad at you for leaving and pooped on your bed!) I also could not believe my good fortune that week in getting to drive your Spider sports car to rehearsals. I was delighted when our son Andrew got to study voice with Dale at IU. It was fun to have dinner out with you both in Bloomington as well. So many, many happy memories. May you be comforted by your good memories as well. I remember Dale calling you his "nearest and dearest", Roseanne. May God comfort you in your sorrow, as well. With love and gratitude, D.G. Fox Giordano

Condolence From: Russell Miller
Condolence: Dear family of Dale Moore, I was privileged to call Dale my colleague and friend at the Eastman School of Music, where we began together in 1995. During the four years we were both on the voice and opera faculty, he was not only clearly successful and popular as a voice teacher, but also extremely helpful to me as an inexperienced teacher of vocal repertoire. He was always ready with advice about all aspects of our field, and also gave me several volumes of poetry and songs which I continue to use and treasure. His knowledge of British and American art song was particularly impressive. It was also my pleasure to accompany Dale on one occasion in the Vaughan Williams Songs of Travel for a private performance in his home in Rochester, followed by a terrific meal prepared by Rosanne. I last saw them both in Bloomington in 2003 and regret that I didn't get back there for a return visit. My best wishes and condolences to all the Moores, I will miss him. Russell Miller, DMA Professor of Vocal Coaching and Repertoire Chair, Voice & Opera Dept. Eastman School of Music of the University of Rochester Rochester NY

Condolence: Thank you, family of Dale Moore, for sharing him with us! I was able to study with him privately one summer in Indiana. He was always generous and kind. He was full of smiles and instruction. His collaborations with Dr. Richard Miller at Oberlin helped take some mystery out of voice teaching. He was a blessing. Joan Bloomberg

Condolence: Sympathy to the family. Fondly remembering Dale. I joined the College of Wooster Choral Union when Dale was in his last few years there as director and really enjoyed it. The last I saw him was a couple years ago at West View Manor. Although he didn't remember me, he was gracious and thanked me for stopping to say HI Susan Vitaro

Condolence From: Paul Meers
Condolence: To the family of Dale Moore, Please accept my sincere condolences on the loss of your husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. I don't have to tell you that he was an extraordinary man. As a teacher, he literally changed my life. I had struggled with technical problems as a singer for many years. I studied with lots of teachers before Mr. Moore, and none helped me as much as he did, in just two semesters as a non-major (I was pursuing a doc. in choral conducting at IU Bloomington in the 90s). Seriously, I think about him every time I practice or perform or teach a lesson. Again, I don't have to tell you that his impact on the world of singing was just enormous. Also, he was a blast to be with - I enjoyed my time in his studio, just being around him. If there is a memorial fund, I would be honored to contribute. Again, please accept my condolences and my gratitude for your love and care of him. Paul Meers Cuence, Ecuador IU Bloomington, 1990-95.

Condolence: Dale was a master teacher: he cared for his students, fostered them to develop as thoughtful, intelligent people, regardless of their native abilities as singers. He produced a legacy of singers and teachers of the highest quality. And he sure could tell a joke. Dale, thank you for all gave us. Patrick Newell, DM

Condolence: I will live the rest of my life without being able to give a proper tribute to my voice teacher, Dale K Moore. And he may not have imagined all the places my voice would take me. But I can hear him saying two things: well done! (when I'd finished my recital); and Let's get to work now (at the next lesson, after the recital). That's a voice teacher for the ages.

Condolence: My deepest sympathy to all of the family. I had the great opportunity to study with Mr. Moore when I was a student at the College of Wooster. He was, of course, quite talented as a singer and a teacher. He also set a great example of what it means to be a true musician--working hard, keeping a positive attitude, and always seeking to refine your musicianship. He was a very positive role model and he touched many people. May he rest in peace. Patrick Gorman, DMA Class of 1986

Condolence From:
Condolence: I am deeply saddened today on hearing that one of my most influential voice teachers has passed away. Baritone Dale Moore was my teacher at IU Music School. He was my first vocal instructor as an actual voice major at a serious institution, because previously at Oberlin, I had been a pianist. I prepared my first full vocal recital with him, and beyond developing my voice immensely, he helped me believe in myself as a singer and come to identify myself as a legitimate singer. I can without a doubt say that I would not be a singer today if I had not had the great good fortune to have studied with him. In addition to being a wonderful pedagogue, he was also simply a fabulous guy. He was good-hearted to a fault, and always took care of his students, without prejudice. Thank you for everything, Mr. Moore. You will never be forgotten. - Tiffany Herring Rufini
