Obituary for Dorthea "Violet" Wise

Dorthea "Violet" Wise, age 93, of Shreve, went home to be with the Lord, on Saturday, November 28, 2015 following a short illness at Life Care Hospice in Wooster.
She was born on March 27, 1922 in Fremont, Ohio to Melvin and Florence "Marie" (Woodworth) Rickner.
While in college, she majored in music and also taught herself to play the piano after only six lessons.
On December 25, 1941 she married John A. Wise, whom she met at her father's church.
While her husband John was serving during WWII, they frequently traveled together. During that time, they had met with General Eisenhower and his wife along with other high ranking officials.
Along with her husband, she also played the piano for a radio station in Brownsville, Texas and she sang with Roy Rogers and Dale Evans.
She was a member of Wooster Church of the Nazarene where she was the main piano player for over thirty years. After her husbands passing on July 6, 1991, she continued playing piano weekly for the Horn Nursing Center & Smithville-Western Care Center.
She was picked by Jackson Perkins to be a test grower for roses. In 1963, she propagated her own rose which the bloom was crimson red with white flecks on the tips of the petals. She enjoyed the memberships of several local flower clubs.
She is survived by her five children, Ken (Yvonne) Wise, Lester (Diane) Wise, Kate Kennedy, Philip Wise, Marilyn "Susy" Wise; adopted sons, James Boyce and Mark Pittman; seven grandchildren, Ken II, Shelly, Christy, Chris, Carrie, Jaramie and Bryant; great-grandchildren, Kenna, Jaci, Bretyn and Hunter.
She is preceded in death by her parents and husband.
It was her wishes that a memorial service take place for family and friends and will be announced at a later date.
