Obituary for Marjorie Helen Yost

Marjorie Helen Yost entered life eternal peacefully at home on April 17, 2015. She was born October 15, 1928 in Wichita, Kansas to Frederick John and Lorena Fay Peters. Her father, a county agricultural agent, and her mother, a first grade teacher, taught her to love nature when her Dad brought her two injured baby rabbits to raise early in life. Her love and compassion for animals continued throughout life.
As an only child, she and her parents moved to Oak Harbor, Ohio to care for her widowed Grandfather when she was in eighth grade. From a young age, her parents taught her to love and cherish family. She graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1950 and taught elementary music in Upper Sandusky, Ohio and Monroe, Michigan. Later she worked as a Graduate Assistant at Bowling Green State University while pursuing her master’s degree in Speech and Hearing Therapy. She taught speech therapy for Wooster City Schools prior to her marriage.
As a young teacher, she met the love of her life Homer P. Yost, when she lived in the apartment behind the Yost Insurance Agency. They were married December 17, 1955. After their marriage, she became a devoted homemaker and gave private speech lessons. She and Homer created a loving home for their family of three children: Sharon, Anne and Fred. She was the most devoted, loving Mother ever and she instilled her faith, strength of character and love of nature in her children. She took great pride in making home a special, loving place. She had a passion for decorating with antiques and other personal meaningful treasures collected over the years. Special touches graced every nook and corner.
Throughout her life Marjorie’s care and compassion for animals was a mission. Her house was always home to a menagerie of furry companions. In their later years, she and Homer owned a mini-farm which they named “My Blue Heaven”. A home to a variety of animals including miniature horses, donkeys, pygmy goats, llamas, rabbits, box turtles, a Belgian mare, Clydesdale mare, Arabian mare and more, it was their pride and joy. From the blue jay she raised to the baby skunks she hid from her Grandfather, to the colicky miniature horse she took in her cottage at “My Blue Heaven Farm”, to the many injured or abandoned cats, dogs and even opossums she cared for, nurtured and loved over the years, her love for animals was endless. God’s creatures brought her immense joy and comfort.
Living next door to daughter Anne (Joe) Wolf and their sons Andrew and Timothy was a source of great joy. The close relationship they shared was priceless. From sitting on the backyard swing together to playing games, shopping adventures, taking care of the animals and yard and sharing many wonderful family and holiday meals together, the beautiful memories of all those special times together will be cherished forever.
Faith in God to love, forgive, lead and care; strength and wisdom to do what is right; pride and joy in family; and her love of nature are Marjorie’s legacy. It is certain that along with Homer and other loved ones who passed before her, a multitude of beloved pet friends ran to greet their loving mother when they saw Jesus welcoming her into heaven.
Private services will be held per Marjorie’s wishes. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wayne County Humane Society Spay and Neuter Fund, 1161 Mechanicsburg Road Wooster, Ohio.
