Obituary for Calvin W. "Cal" Ginther

Calvin "Cal" W. Ginther,, lifetime resident of Wayne County, WWII Army Veteran, and lifetime love of his family, went home to be with the Lord at his residence in Wooster, Saturday, July 19, 2014 at the age of 89.
Cal will be remembered for his kind heart and love of life. He was happiest spending time mowing and enjoying nature, entertaining, dancing and traveling with his family and friends. Although his body was weary, his spirit and mind allowed him to enjoy this active lifestyle for 88 years. He had been an active member of the Gnat Boxers Square Dance Club of Wooster and the Tag-A-Long Campers Club of Massillon; First Presbyterian Church of Wooster; Ohio Country Music Association and member of Canton Eagles Club.
He honorably served in the US Army during WWII in Europe.
He was a hard worker having ownership in a restaurant and full service gas station early in his career and later worked 20 plus years each for Lytle Construction and Coblentz Brothers until his retirement in 1991.
He was born February 4th, 1925 to Fred and Grace (Budd) Ginther, and was the youngest of four children, all of whom have passed including his sisters, Mildred (Gay) Powell, Viola Ginther, and his brother Clyde (Vesta) Ginther. He married the love of his life, Frances (Smetzer) on March 8, 1947, and treasured their 47 year marriage before she passed away in 1994. They have three children, Rodney Kay (Linda) Ginther of Bartonville, TX., Allen Jay (Alicia) Ginther of Sevierville, TN. and Barbara Ann Vanderbilt of Wadsworth, OH.; Grandchildren, Crystal Ginther, Daffine (David) Roberts, Adam Varns, Nathan Varns, Gregg Ginther and Adam Ginther with David Ginther who has preceded him in death.; Great-Grandchildren, Dylan and Roxy Ginther, Jaxson Roberts and an infant, Darwin Ginther who passed away in 2013.
Cal's love of travel and dancing brought Marilyn (Young) Lint and he together. They married December 16, 2000, increasing his family with a step-daughter, Jodi (Jim) Brunner and a step-grandson, Carl. Cal and Marilyn had such a passion for traveling that they started their own touring co. They would travel in large groups anywhere and everywhere that could be physically navigated by plane, boat, or bus. Although Cal's favorite was the good ol' US of A especially Alaska and Glacier National Park.
All of us feel blessed to be touched by Cal's faith, love, fun and hope to continue his legacy.
The family would like to extend a warm thank you for the loving care of Life Care Hospice of Greater Wayne County and Trinity Home Health Care.
In lieu of flowers, a request of donations be made to Life Care Hospice, 2525 Back Orrville Rd., Wooster, OH. 44691.
A celebration of Cal's life will be Thursday, 10:00 a.m. at Custer-Glenn Funeral Home, 2284 Benden Dr., Wooster with Reverend David Rice officiating. Interment will follow at Reedsburg Cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday at the funeral home from 6 - 8 p.m.
