Obituary for Stanley Martin Levers

World War II Navy Seabee veteran, Stanley M. Levers, age 90, of Wooster, passed away Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at Wayne Manor,of Smithville Western Care Center in Wooster, Ohio.
Friends may call 2 - 4 & 6 - 8 p.m. Friday at Custer-Glenn Funeral Home, 2284 Benden Dr., Wooster.

A private family interment will take place at Wooster Cemetery.
Stan was born April 5, 1923 in Wayne County and lived most of his life in Wooster. He was the son of John Sherman and Mary A.(Martin) Levers. He was married to Nancy Jane Taylor on January 24, 1945 while on leave from the Navy.
Stan graduated from Wooster High School in 1941. He enlisted in the Navy in September 1942 in the Seabees 60th NCB & PAD #1. He served in the South Pacific. After active service, Stan was in the Navy Reserves for 4 years as BU 1/C.
Stan was honorably discharged Gunners Mate 1/C in November 1945 and continued his studies at Tri State College (Trine University) Angola, Indiana, in civil engineering. He was a member of Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity. He graduated in 1948. Stan continued his education becoming certified as a Professional Engineer.
Stan worked with his father at J.S.Levers and Son building various homes and buildings in Wooster and Wayne County. He was also employed by the State of Ohio, Division Factory & Building in Columbus, OH, City of Rittman and City of Wooster. He retired in 1986.
Stan was active in Church of the Cross (Madisonburg), Masonic Lodge - Ebenezer #33, Valley of Canton Scottish Rite, VFW #1081, Ohio Amphibs, Retired Public Employees, BOCA Code Committee and was a senior Kiwanis member.
Stan is survived by a sister, Marjean (widow of Henry) Ebsen of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, a son, Brian (Anne) Levers of Lima, OH, 3 daughters, Natalie (widow of Jeffrey Nye, wife of Robert) Nye Pearsall of Castle Hayne, NC, Margaret "Peggy"(widow of David) Hibbs of Grand Rapids, MI and Stephanie (Michael) Fisher of Columbus, OH; 9 grandchildren; and 9 great -grandchildren.
Stan was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Nancy; two sons in law, Jeffrey Nye and David Hibbs; and a great granddaughter Aubrey Rose Hampp.
