Obituary for Elwood "Al" Quarne

Elwood "Al" Quarne, age 85, of Wooster, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday morning, January 11th, 2011 at his residence following a period of declining health where he was surrounded by his loving family.
A visitation will be this evening (Thursday) from 6-8 p.m. at Custer-Glenn Funeral Home, 2284 Benden Dr., Wooster. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 17, 2011 at First Lutheran Church in Janesville, WI. Visitation will be one hour (10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.) prior to services at the church. Entombment will follow in Milton Lawns Memorial Park in Janesville. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to: Hospice of Greater Wayne County, 2525 Back Orrville Rd., Wooster, Ohio 44691.

He was born in Blair, WI on May 3, 1925, the son of E.B. "Bennie" and Effie (Skorstad) Quarne. He worked as a Truck Driver for the Jatco Co. in Janesville, WI for over 30 years before retiring in 1989 before moving to Wooster.
He married Mary N. (Simmons) of 21 years. She survives.
He was a member of the First Lutheran Church and Teamsters Local 579; enjoyed sports; listening and dancing to country music.
In addition to his loving wife of Wooster, he is survived by 3 children, Margy (Mike) McCoy of Fort Meyers, FL, Larry Quarne of Middleton, WI and Danny (Barbara) Quarne of Sussex, WI; 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; Step-children, Kenny & Jamie Duncan of West Lebanon, Ohio, Walter & Glenda Pinnicks of Wooster, Charolette Reese of Millersburg, Barbara Mitchell of Salt Lake City, Utah, Beth Duncan and Sharon Duncan both of Wooster; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Stella who died in 1989; son, Ernie Quarne; 2 brothers, Arnold and Loren Quarne; 3 sisters, Merle Garthwaite, Corrine Syverson and Vi Moen and a step-son, Michael Duncan.
