Obituary for Adrian E. "Sam" Shamp

"Together Again"

Adrian E. "Sam" Shamp, age 89, of Smithville, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, August 17, 2017 at West View Healthy Living in Wooster following a period of declining health. He was surrounded by his family.

He was born on May 29, 1928 in New Willmington, PA. to Clyde H. and Nora (Moose) Shamp.

He proudly served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during the Korean Conflict from October 15, 1950 - October 8, 1952.

He married Helen E. Staley on August 24, 1957 in Huntington, W.Va. She went home to be with the Lord, June 18, 2016.

After moving to Wayne County in 1958, he worked as a Carpenter for the Wooster Lumber Co. and then with Northwood Lumber Co. before retiring in 1992.

He had attended Smithville Mennonite Church; enjoyed building park benches ,fishing and bird watching. He was a member of the N.R.A. since 1986. He also loved to explore the back roads and going on numerous vacations with his family.

He is survived by his son, Ev (Robin) Shamp of Smithville, 2 daughters, Cynthia (Chuck) Diehl of Smithville and Rhonda Martin of Orrville; 7 grandchildren, Keith (Julie) Baker, Bryan (Marissa) Shamp, Jarod Shamp (Joe Wolford), Rebekah (Mike) Shipper, Josh (Rhianna) Diehl, Calvin and Joel Martin; great-grandchildren, Karianna, Colton and Caleb Baker, Camryn and Carter Shamp, Theo, Oliver and Beatrice Shipper and Adrian Diehl; 2 brothers, Dale (Donna) Shamp of Smithville and Myron Shamp of Kingsport, TN.; a sister, Janice Clark of Smithville; a very good friend and neighbor, Jim Hohenshil.

In addition to his parents, and wife, he is preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Baker; 2 brothers, Clyde "Shorty" Shamp and Darrel Shamp; a sister, Esther Brant and a son-in-law, David Martin.

Services will be on Saturday, August 26th, 11:00 a.m. at Smithville Mennonite Church with Pastor Todd Martin officiating followed by interment at Crown Hill Cemetery in Orrville.

Visitation will be Friday from 5 - 8 p.m. at Custer-Glenn Funeral Home in Wooster and one hour prior to services (10:00 - 11:00 a.m.) at the church on Saturday.
