Obituary for Sir Charles DeVilleneuve

Sir Charles DeVilleneuve
Sir Charles DeVilleneuve, age 84, of Wooster, passed away, Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at Wooster Community Hospital following a period of declining health.

He was born in Detroit, MI to John and Cecilia (DeVilleneuve) Gordon.

Sir Charles graduated from Ohio State University and worked in their architects office for many years. He designed several OSU campus buildings, many of which are still there.

He traveled extensively all over the world and was involved in the negotiations of President Reagan and Gorbachev, as he was working in the Pentagon at that time.

He was a world class mountain climber and made in to the summit of Mt. Everest in 1988. He also climbed all the major mountains in the world except K-2 in China.

Sir Charles's paternal grandparents came to the U.S. from France back in the late twenties. While in France, they had a large vineyard and winery which produced over 200,000 cases of fine French wine each year.
When they arrived at our country, they had a winery and vineyard where young Sir Charles learned the business of growing vines and making wine. He and Sue have a vineyard in Coshocton County and produced enough grapes to make several gallons of with each year.

He is also a renowned master artist who has had many of his oil paintings displayed at The Wayne County Fair and always won a lot of ribbons, most of them being blue.

He loved sports, particularly Ohio State football and the College Of Wooster men's basketball program.

He was a member of the Rebounders Club and faithfully attended all home games up until a few years ago when his health began to fail.

He is survived by his lifetime partner, Sue Froelich; many nieces and nephews and his faithful canine companion, "Benji".

As per his wishes, there will be no services and cremation has taken place.
