Obituary for Gary O'Neal

Gary O'Neal, age 80, of Apple Creek, peacefully passed away, Monday, December 19, 2016 at the Wayne County Care Center in Wooster following a long illness. He was surrounded by his family.

He was born on August 7, 1936 in Logan, W. Va. to William and Ethel (Prince) O'Neal and has been an area resident for most of his life.

He had served in the U.S. Army from April 1959 - April 1961.

He married his best friend, and the love of his life, Marlyn Y. Daniel on March 27, 1959. She passed away on January 3, 2015.

He previously worked at the Akron Brass Co. in Wooster before retiring after 40 years of service.

He enjoyed attending auctions; was a avid Cleveland sports fan and coin collector; enjoyed gardening and taking long walks. He loved spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his children, Tammy (Bill) Kirker of Apple Creek; Sherry (Dan) Vizzo of Wooster; Patrick (Donna) O'Neal of Wooster and Todd (Stacy) O'Neal of Apple Creek; 8 grandchildren, Joshua and Rachel Vizzo, Megan and Drew Varner, Kaley and Jess Ebert, Molly Kirker, Tyler, Chelsey, Spencer and Carley O'Neal; 6 great-grandchildren; a brother, Larry (Thelma) O'Neal of Mansfield; sisters, Pat Maurer of Strasburg and Kay (Lawrence) Nelson of Smerna, Ga.

In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by a brother, Gaylord Sexton and sisters, Rosemary Edwards, Phyllis Rogers, Billie Bailey and Becky Davis.

A public visitation will be Thursday from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at Custer-Glenn Funeral Home in Wooster with private family services to follow. Interment will be at Apple Creek Cemetery.
