Obituary for Rosanelle Firebaugh

Rosanelle Firebaugh, age 99, of Wooster, died peacefully in her sleep on Friday, December 9, 2016 at West View Healthy Living in Wooster.

She was born in Parsons, W.Va., on November 2, 1917, to Sylvester Carson and Nellie Jane (Fowler) Grose.

Her father was a school principal and then school superintendent, and she lived in various parts of the state while growing up.

In 1939 she graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan College with honors.

On October 4, 1944, she married George Lawrence Firebaugh while he was on furlough from military service in WW II. She moved from St. Albans, W.Va.. to Wayne County in 1959 when her husband left his job as a chemist to buy a dairy farm.

She is survived by two sons- Dr. Glenn (Judy) Firebaugh of State College, PA and Scott (Susan) Firebaugh of Knoxville, TN- 7 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, who died in 1991, by a son, Bruce Firebaugh, who died in 1970, and by her parents and her brother and a sister.

Though her eyesight and hearing failed as she aged, her mind remained sharp until the end. When she could no longer read numbers-bank balances, phone numbers, and so on-she would memorize them as they were read to her.

She was a self-effacing person who gave much and asked for little. When she was asked what she would like to help her celebrate her 99th birthday, she said she would like a chocolate milkshake. So all those present had chocolate milk shakes. Before she became blind, she enjoyed reading, traveling, keeping a diary, and watching the sunset from her front porch. Most of all, though, she enjoyed being with her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was a member of Wooster Grace Church.

Services will be Monday, December 19, 2016 at West View Healthy Living Chapel, in Wooster with Pastor Kirk Fairhurst officiating followed by interment at Wooster Cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour (10:00 - 11:00 a.m.) prior to services at the chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to either: West View Healthy Living , 1715 Mechanicsburg Rd., Wooster, Ohio 44691 or Wooster Grace Church, 4599 Burbank Rd., Wooster, Oh. 44691.
