Obituary for Ervie Kunkler

Ervie Kunkler, age 86, of Wooster, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, January 2, 2013 at Med Central Hospital of Kindred in Mansfield following an unexpected illness.
Graveside services will be Saturday, January 11th, 11:00 a.m. at Sherwood Memorial Gardens with Pastor Eric Fairhurst officiating and with military honors.
Custer-Glenn Funeral Home, 2284 Benden Dr., Wooster is honored with serving the family.
Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to: Meals On Wheels of Stark and Wayne Counties, 2323 Nave Rd., SE., Massillon, Ohio 44646.
He was born on January 1, 1928 in Coldwater, Michigan to Shirley C. and Dorothy I. (Markel) Kunkler.
Ervie graduated from Wooster High School in 1945 and served with the U.S. Army in Japan during WWII. He married Mary Jane Wepler on February 4, 1983 in Orrville. She died previously.
He worked for Rubbermaid in the Shipping Dept. for 20 years and then with the Daily Record. He then worked with the City Of Wooster and then with Walter Jones Building Co. where he retired from after many years of service.
In his younger years, he enjoyed bowling and playing softball. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Wooster and was a very active member with the Wooster Class of 1945 activities.
He was an avid golfer and member of Riceland Golf Course; loved to travel and especially driving and talking about his vehicles throughout the years. He enjoyed spending time with family and especially attending his grandchildrens sporting events. He was a member of Wayne Coon Hunters Club.
He is survived by his children, Amy (Jeryl) Dowell of Granbury, Texas and Gregory (Debbie) Kunkler of Wooster; grandchildren, Eric (Jessica) Dowell of Castrolville, Texas and Geoffrey (Lauren) Kunkler of Columbus, Ohio; great-grandchildren, Allison and Eisley Dowell of Castrolville, Texas; a sister-in-law, Karlene Kunkler.
In addition to his parents, and wife, he is preceded in death by his 2 brothers, Howard and William Kunkler.
