Obituary for James L. Stoffer

James L. Stoffer, age 82, of Wooster, has taken flight to his heavenly home, on Saturday, January 20th, 2018 at Life Care Hospice in Wooster.

He was born on April 19, 1935 in Shelby, Ohio to Norman and Grace (Quiggley) Stoffer and later graduated from Hower Vocational School in Akron in 1953.

Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict with the 5th Army Flight detachment. While serving his country, his great love of flight took hold as he worked on helicopters and planes.

He married his wonderful bride, Mary Lou Pulskamp on September 24, 1955 and shared a true love, blessed by God for 62 years.

Following his military service, Jim started working for Nichols Bakery, then for Borden Milk Co.; Reiter Dairy and Harter Dairy. "We needed all that milk to go with the amazing cookies that mom made".

Later he tried working in the retail business with Montgomery Wards then with Miracle Mart. In 1973 he and his family moved from Akron to Wooster where he then worked as Assistant Manager for McDonalds.

He then finally pursued something "quieter" by working at the College of Wooster until he retired in 1997.

Following his retirement from the C.O.W., he drove for Red Ferris Chevrolet for the next 18 years and thought this was the job he liked the best. He had all those cars to drive, for free and where to start?

In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his children, Steve (Sharon) Stoffer of Apple Creek, Theresa (Richard) Roland of Millersburg, Karen Russell of Orrville, Michele (Michael) Nussbaum of Cincinnati, Jim (Sharon) Stoffer of Orrville, Kevin (Jody) Stoffer of Wooster, Marion (David) Cox of Wooster, Loren (Pam) Stoffer of Delaware, Oh., and Valerie (Kenton) Kirkland of North Canton; He was also blessed with 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

"Dad instilled in all of his children a great work ethic. We feel greatly indebted to him for this. This was a loving way to show us a dignity of life and respect for self and family"

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church in Wooster with Rev. Fr. Stephen Moran as celebrant. Following the services, family and friends will prepare to go in procession from the church to Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman.

The committal service for inurnment will take place at 12:30 at the cemetery.

Following the committal, the church and family has invited everyone back to the church at 2:00 p.m.for a time of visitation and comfort food.

Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to either: St. Mary Catholic Church, 527 Beall Ave. Wooster, Oh. 44691 or Life Care Hospice, 1900 Akron Rd., Wooster, Oh. 44691.

Custer-Glenn Funeral Home in Wooster is honored with serving the family.

"Our dad and Jesus are having quite a celebration even now...oh the joy, the dancing and the pie?!?..hmm. We tried to keep dad as long as possible but he was ready for his "full flight wings". So dear dad...have fun! We loved you so much that we are not going to say good-bye BUT we will all see you in heaven..and yes, all nine of us!"

The family wishes to sincerely thank all the staff of Life Care Hospice for their extraordinary care and concern while in their care. They also especially appreciated the "Veterans Processional Run" following his passing.
