Condolence From: Beth Bishop Beery
Condolence: So sorry to hear of Dales passing. We all had such a good time on Shreve Road. and I remember all of us playing softball In the Smetzer's back yard with Dale pitching and Holly running for me, I could hit the ball a country mile but couldn't run. Just know that he is a better place and you will meet again someday

Condolence: I had the good fortune fo have lived two doors down from the Smetzers growing up. Dale would fix our bikes, take us for putt putt rides, referee our softball games and break up all the scuffles among his three ornery sons and our Shreve - Batdorf road gang. Dale taught me humility, always whipping me in billiards and golf as I got older. He was a successful business man, an elected township trustee, a community volunteer, a devoted husband, caring father, and dear friend to all. He and Carolyn shared so many good times throughout their 70 plus years together. Dale lived a 94 year life of faith, family and friendship to the fullest measure. Our heartfelt condolences to the Smetzer family...we will miss him.

Condolence From:
Condolence: To the family of Mr. Dale Smetzer, my heartfelt sympathy goes out to each one of you for the loss of Mr. Smetzer. Mr. and Mrs. Smetzer were like a second set of parents to me. It is no exaggeration when I say that I probably spent a third of my high school years at the Smetzer house. I have such fond memories of those days. We would always play softball in their back yard all day until it either got too dark to see or we would lose our ball in the ditch across the street. I am surprised that we never broke one of the windows in their house. Mr. Smetzer sponsored and coached the softball team that Gary and I played on during the summers. I can't tell you the number of times that either Gary or I or both of us were in Coach Smetzer's "doghouse" for making some bonehead play during a game. But probably my most fond memory of Mr. Smezter was when Gary and I would ride our bikes to his service station on a hot summer day and get a 10 cent cold, orange or grape soda out of the cooler he kept in his shop. We would sit there and drink it until we would get on his nerves and he would throw us out. I am so glad that I got to spend some time with Mr. and Mrs. Smetzer when I returned to Wooster for our 50th Triway High School Reunion. There are so many more stories I could share but I think I am running out of space. God Bless you all and I will be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. Rollin Franks

Condolence: Carolyn, Gary, Terry and family. My deepest sympathy to you and your family. Dale was truly a terrific man and a wonderful neighbor for many years to our family. I will always remember my brother heading up to Dale and Carolyn’s house to get some fabulous dessert that Carolyn had made and play pool with the Smetzer boys. Dale always had a smile on his face when I visited that last several years and always had a good story to tell me. He loved taking care of his wonderful yard , riding his lawn mower and I can still see him tending to his garden. He loved the simple pleasures and enjoyed life to the fullest with his devoted wife. May your fond memories of Dale help to ease your pain during this difficult time. Holly Horn
