AUDREY HINES
WOOSTER – Audrey “Jane” Hines, 98, of Wooster, was welcomed by Jesus into her forever home Friday morning, May 10, 2019, at West View Healthy Living, with her family and roommate by her side.
Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Custer-Glenn Funeral Home, 2284 Benden Dr., Wooster, with the Pastor Kirk Fairhurst, West View Chaplain, officiating. Burial will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens.
Friends may call one hour prior to the services.
Memorial contributions may be made to LifeCare Hospice, 1900 Akron Road, Wooster; or to The Salvation Army, Wooster Corps, 437 S. Market St., Wooster 44691.
She was born Oct. 14, 1920, in Atwater, Ohio, to Robert and Daisy (Howell) Weekley and married Paul R. Hines on Aug. 28, 1940 in West Salem. He passed away on Mar. 29, 2002, and she missed living life with him by her side.
She made her home in Wayne County most of her life and was a homemaker and later worked as a cook in the cafeteria at Chester Elementary School where she worked for over 20 years.
She had been a member of Golden Recliners Camping Club and also enjoyed camping with her grandchildren every summer. She enjoyed helping those less fortunate by baking pies for The Salvation Army every Thanksgiving and helping with food preparation and service with Haven of Rest Ministries in Akron.
She loved to cook and would often surprise friends and family in need with her special gifts of food and treats, especially her cut-out cookies. Every treat was wrapped with love, and everyone who received these delicious gifts knew how special they were and how much love went into each act of kindness.
Ten years after the passing of her beloved husband, she was ready to move to West View Healthy Living where she spent the remaining 6.5 years. She made many wonderful friends and touched the lives of the staff during her time there.
Surviving are daughters, Audrey (Earl) Bowers of Waxhaw, N.C., Marilyn (John) Amstutz of Mount Vernon, Judy (Jim) Bowers and Dixie (Fred) Ray, both of Wooster, and a daughter-in-law, Polly King of West Salem; 6 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 4 foster grandchildren; 6 foster great grandchildren; 4 great, great grandchildren; sister Zona Smith of Naples, Florida; several nieces and nephews; West View Manor dining room friends Maxine and Mary; and a very special roommate and friend, Dora Taggart (her angel here on earth).
Her parents; a foster son, Charles King, five brothers, one sister, and special friends Wanda Uhl and Ellen Firebaugh died previously.
