Obituary for Thomas R. Boughton

Thomas R. Boughton, 85, died peacefully at home Thursday, August 11, 2016.
He was born October 16, 1930 in Warren, Ohio to the late Cecil and Anne Wood-Boughton. He married Jeanne Haines August 30, 1953 in Canton, Ohio.
Thomas was raised from the age of 11 by his maternal grandmother, Bertha Mae Miller. He proudly served his country in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict and retired from Diebold after 42 years of dedicated service. He was a life member of the American Legion, where he was Past Commander at the state and local levels, Amvets, 40et8 and the Wooster Moose. He was the Grande Chef de Gare of the 40et8 in 2005 and Veteran of the Year of Wayne County in 2012. He served the District 10 Baseball League as commissioner for 20 years, Boys State Commissioner for 15 years and was on Shreve council for 12 years.
He is survived by his wife, of 63 years, Jeanne; children Keith (Kathy) Boughton of Shreve, Denise (Scott) Kreger of Big Prairie, Karen (Gary) Blackham of Rigby, Idaho, Debby (Larry) McNeill of Canton, Susan (Tom) Johnson of Big Prairie and Craig (Rochell) Boughton of Killen, Alabama; grandchildren Alison, Kory, Pam, Brittany, Brooke, Camron, John, Dawn, Beau, Thad, Breann, Kyle, Sierra, Matt, Brad, Lisa, Tyler and Jared; 25 great-grandchildren and 3 more on the way; brothers William (Norma) Boughton of Humboldt, Tennessee and Richard (Norma) Hegal of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota and his beloved cat “Pretty Girl”.
The family will receive friends Sunday, August 14 from 2 to 6 PM at Custer-Glenn Funeral Home, 2284 Benden Drive in Wooster, where Pastor Richard Hegal will conduct the funeral service Monday at 11 AM. Burial with Military Honors will be held at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery Tuesday 11 AM. Memorials may be made to your local American Legion Post for baseball programs.
